Course Overview
This course aims to introduce the concept and principles of trauma informed mediation, and to equip mediators with the skills and strategies to effectively work with clients who have experienced trauma. The course will cover the following topics:
- What is trauma and how does it affect individuals and their conflict resolution processes?
- What is trauma informed mediation and why is it important for mediators to adopt this approach?
- How to recognise the signs and symptoms of trauma in clients and in oneself, and how to respond appropriately and sensitively.
- How to create a safe and supportive environment for mediation, and how to establish trust and rapport with clients.
- How to use trauma informed strategies and techniques to facilitate dialogue, promote empowerment, and foster healing and resilience.
- How to deal with challenges and ethical dilemmas that may arise in trauma informed mediation, such as disclosure, confidentiality, consent, and safety.
- How to practice self-care and prevent vicarious trauma and burnout as a mediator.
